Practice smarter and play better quicker.

Don't waste your time on things that make no difference to your scores, spend your practice time intelligently and you'll play better golf.

Most practice is comfort practice

Watch any range at the weekend. Most golfers hit the club they strike best, from a flat lie, to no specific target, with no consequence attached.

It feels productive because contact improves during the session. It rarely transfers, because nothing about it resembles playing golf.

Let the numbers set the agenda

Your own strokes gained profile answers the only question that matters: which part of the game is losing the most shots against players who score what you want to score?

For most mid handicappers the answer is approach play and big numbers, not putting. For most low handicappers it is wedge distance control.

Build sessions with a score

Give every session a target and a result you can write down. Nine wedge shots to three different numbers, scored on proximity. Ten up and downs from awkward lies, scored on conversions.

When practice has a score, you get feedback and pressure at the same time, and both are what actually move handicaps.
