To identify areas in your game you can improve on is the key to better golf. Learn how even Tour pros can identify areas for improvement, even when they shoot 68.
Good rounds hide leaks
Four under par is a fine day. It is also a round where the leaks are hardest to see, because the score feels like a success and nobody reviews a success.
Strokes gained does not care how you felt. It shows exactly which shots underperformed the standard for that distance and lie.
The four shots
Typically they are hiding in three places: wedge distance control, first putts from outside twenty feet finishing outside three feet, and one loose decision from trouble.
None of those feel like disasters at the time. Together they are the difference between a good week and a winning week.
Review the good rounds too
Most golfers only analyse the bad days, which biases everything they learn towards damage limitation.
